The best meal we’ve had in Japan by far! The owners were very kind and welcoming, from the moment we stepped in the door. We were taken through the menu item by item, and everything we got was absolutely delicious! Obviously the Okonomiyaki was amazing, but the pork omelette was a highlight for us (we’d already had two pieces before the photo)! Everything was very reasonably priced. I cannot recommend this place highly enough! <3

I visited Chobo Chobo in early February 2023 during the cold Kyoto nights, not long after I had watched the Japanese TV series Midnight Diner. The cozy atmosphere reminded me of that show. After wandering through the quiet streets at night, I stepped inside and found a place that felt both peaceful and welcoming. The food was truly delicious, full of the comforting flavors that make Japanese home cooking so special. The couple who ran the restaurant were among the sweetest people I met in Japan, always kind, smiling, and genuinely caring about their guests. During my stay in Kyoto, I ended up going there almost every evening because it felt like coming home each time. Recently, when I heard the song Omoide from Midnight Diner, all those memories came back and I realized I had never written a review. I strongly recommend Chobo Chobo to anyone looking for authentic Japanese food served with heart in a warm and welcoming setting.
